Hetrofen MR Tablet is a combination medication:

  • Aceclofenac (100 mg): A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain and inflammation.

  • Paracetamol (325 mg): An analgesic and antipyretic that alleviates pain and reduces fever.

  • Chlorzoxazone (250 mg): A muscle relaxant that helps relieve muscle spasms and stiffness.

Uses and Indications:

Hetrofen MR is prescribed for:

  • Muscular pain and spasms

  • Joint pain and inflammation

  • Postoperative pain

  • Conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis

Mechanism of Action:

  • Aceclofenac inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes, decreasing the production of prostaglandins, thereby reducing inflammation and pain.

  • Paracetamol acts centrally in the brain to elevate the pain threshold and reduce fever.

  • Chlorzoxazone works on the central nervous system to relax muscles and alleviate spasms.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Take the tablet as directed by your doctor, with or without food.

  • Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew or crush.

  • The usual dosage is one tablet twice daily, but follows your doctor's instructions.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Stomach pain and indigestion

  • Dizziness and drowsiness

  • Diarrhea

  • Loss of appetite

Consult your doctor if these persist or worsen.

Contraindications:

Do not use Hetrofen MR if you have:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of its components

  • Active or history of gastrointestinal ulcers or bleeding

  • Severe liver or kidney impairment

  • Pregnancy (especially in the third trimester)

Drug Interactions:

  • Paracetamol: May interact with alcohol, barbiturates, carbamazepine, hydantoins, isoniazid, rifampin, and sulfinpyrazone, increasing the risk of liver damage.

  • Aceclofenac: May increase plasma concentrations of lithium and digoxin, enhance the activity of anticoagulants, and increase plasma methotrexate levels leading to toxicity if administered within 2–4 hours of methotrexate administration.

  • Chlorzoxazone: May enhance the sedative effects of alcohol and other central nervous system depressants.
