Phenta XM Nasal Drops (Xylometazoline 0.1%)

Use/Indication:

Phenta XM Nasal Drops, which contain Xylometazoline 0.1%, are used to relieve nasal congestion associated with conditions like:

• Common cold

• Sinusitis

• Allergic rhinitis

• Hay fever

• Nasal congestion due to upper respiratory infections

The drops work by reducing swelling and congestion in the nasal passages, making it easier to breathe.

Mechanism of Action:

Xylometazoline is a Sympathomimetic Drug that works as a Vasoconstrictor. It stimulates Alpha-Adrenergic Receptors in the nasal blood vessels, causing them to constrict (narrow). This leads to reduced blood flow to the nasal mucosa, which in turn decreases the swelling and congestion, allowing for improved airflow through the nose.

Dosage:

• Adults and children (12 years and above): Typically, 1 to 2 drops in each nostril, 2-3 times a day.
• Children (6-12 years): Typically, 1 drop in each nostril, 1-2 times a day.
• Children under 6 years: Consult your doctor before using.

Duration of use: Xylometazoline should not be used for more than 3 consecutive days. Prolonged use may lead to rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa), where the nasal congestion worsens when the medication is stopped.

Side Effects: 

Xylometazoline is generally well tolerated, potential side effects include:

• Local irritation: Burning, stinging, or dryness in the nose.
