Ceftriaxone 

ceftriaxone Injection is an antibacterial drug used to treat conditions such as lower respiratory tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, bacterial septicemia, bone and joint infections, and meningitis.

Tazobactam

Tazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor used for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria. This medicine is used in combination with other beta-lactam antibiotics, usually when more commonly used systemic antibiotics may be ineffective due to bacterial resistance.

Use and Indications of Ceftriaxon,Tazobactum Injection:

• Use: Ceftriaxone and Tazobactam combination is used to treat bacterial infections.
• Indications: It is primarily used for severe infections caused by susceptible bacteria when broader spectrum coverage is required.

Dosage:

• Dosage: The typical dose for adults is 1 gram (g) of ceftriaxone combined with 125 mg of tazobactam, administered intravenously (IV) once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection and the specific clinical scenario.
• Dosage Adjustment: Dosage may vary based on the patient's renal function, severity of infection, and other factors determined by the treating physician.

Mechanism of Action of Ceftriaxon,Tazobactum Injection:

• Ceftriaxone: It is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.
• Tazobactam: It is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacterial enzymes from degrading ceftriaxone, thereby extending its spectrum of activity against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.

Side Effects of Ceftriaxon,Tazobactum Injection:

• Common Side Effects: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash, injection site reactions.
• Serious Side Effects: Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, and potential for antibiotic resistance with prolonged or inappropriate use.

Contraindications of Recocept SL inj:

• Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics or beta-lactamase inhibitors.

Drug Interactions:

• Probenecid: May increase and prolong ceftriaxone levels in the blood.
• Calcium-containing solutions: Avoid mixing or co-administration with ceftriaxone due to risk of precipitation and potential lung and kidney damage.

Special precautions for ceftriaxone 1000mg + tazobactam 125mg Injection:

History of penicillin allergy; lactation. Consider possibility of pseudomembranous colitis in patients who present with diarrhoea subsequent to the admin of antibacterial agents. Monitor prothrombin time in patients with impaired vit k synthesis or low vit k stores during treatment. Prolonged treatment may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. Caution in patients with a history of gi disease, especially colitis. Discontinue treatment in patients who develop signs/symptoms suggestive of gallbladder disease. Not to be used in hyperbilirubinemic neonates, especially prematures.
