Permethrin 5% w/v (WEEVA lotion) is a medication primarily used to treat scabies and lice infestations in humans.

Use and Indication of WEEVA Lotion:

• Treat Scabies: A skin infestation caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite.
• Treat Lice: Both head lice and pubic lice (crab lice).

Mechanism of Action of Permethrin 5% w/v lotion:

Permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid, acts by disrupting the sodium channel current in nerve cell membranes of insects and mites. This disrupts the normal function of the nervous system, leading to paralysis and death of the parasite.

Dosage:

• Scabies: Apply the lotion thoroughly over the entire body from the neck down and leave on for 8-14 hours before washing off.
• Head Lice: Apply to the scalp, leave on for 10 minutes, and then rinse off with water.
• Pubic Lice: Apply to affected areas and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off.
